You may heavy periods (also called menorrhagia) if you:
Need to change your pad or tampon every couple of hours.
Need to use 2 types of sanitary product together, such as a pad and a tampon
Have periods lasting more than 7 days
Pass large blood clots
Leak through to your clothes
You often have to take days off from your daily activities during your period
Feel tired or short of breath a lot

You may be referred for tests to determine if your heavy periods are caused by an underlying condition.
If they are not you may be offered types of contraceptive and medicine to reduce bleeding. You may also be offered anti-inflammatory medication.
